Honoring Sarah Katz by strengthening community, advancing heart health, raising awareness around caffeine and cardiac safety, and supporting legislative advocacy that helps protect lives.
The name reflects Sarah’s own message about using each day with purpose — and the way she lived with energy, curiosity, connection, and impact.
There are 1,440 minutes in each day.
At her Stevens Cooperative School graduation, Sarah spoke about using those 1,440 minutes to make a positive impact.
She didn’t just say it — she lived it.
Sarah moved through life with energy, curiosity, and purpose. She embraced experiences fully and often at a pace that reflected how much she wanted to do and see.
From summers spent in Spain, India, and Israel, to a gap year in Chengdu, China, to internships, work, and academic pursuits, she made the most of every opportunity.
She deeply valued community and loved the many different communities she was part of. She was especially passionate about community health and about bringing people together in ways that could make a positive difference.
Every minute matters
In honoring Sarah, 1440 represents a commitment to carrying forward that mindset each day — strengthening community, advancing health awareness, supporting legislative advocacy, and creating positive change.
“May Sarah’s passion and commitment to community health live on through all she impacted.”
These words, engraved on a memorial bench in Asbury Park, reflect the spirit of this work.
Sarah loved community. She had a rare ability to connect across different parts of her life and to make others feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
These efforts, along with many others — and the impact they create — are happening so that Sarah’s passion and commitment continue to live on.
Advocacy is a central part of this work — helping build awareness, strengthen safeguards, and move meaningful protections forward.
Sarah Katz Caffeine Safety Act (H.R. 2511)
The Sarah Katz Caffeine Safety Act (H.R. 2511) is legislation focused on improving transparency and safety around highly concentrated caffeine products by strengthening labeling requirements and increasing consumer awareness of potential risks.
The goal is to help prevent avoidable cardiac events and protect consumers — particularly young people — by ensuring individuals better understand what they are consuming and the dangers of excessive or highly concentrated caffeine intake.
The bill is currently in committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and requires continued public support to advance to a full vote.
We’re very grateful that 5 Calls has added the Sarah Katz Caffeine Safety Act.
Your voice can help move this forward — contacting your representatives is one of the most effective ways to support this effort. The 5 Calls app and website make it easy by showing who to call and what to say, with simple scripts to guide you.
Why 5 Calls works: calling is the most effective way to influence Congress — staff track calls and use those tallies to guide decisions.
